* On saturday july 3rd the Magnet finally came back to Belgium. The past year we travelled all over Europe to hook up with the band and check out the gigs so it was nice that it was only a 2 hour drive this time. Apart from Monster Magnet the festival bill wasn't very interesting this year but who cares ... as long as the Magnet is there we are there and the band putted us on the guestlist anyway so ... thanks a lot guys (and special thanks to Phil Caivano for calling us the night before the fest. with instructions how to get into the completely sold out festivalarea)! We will probably never know if it was karma or just coincidental but on our way to the festivalsite we bumped into the Monster Magnet tourbus who were on their way to the backstage area so we stopped the bus and the band took us with them which was so cool because the feeling we had when we drove through the gates of Belgiums most prestigious rock festival is simply indescribable, i mean ... all those years we visited the festival and this time we were guests ourselves. Every band who ever played on the Werchter festival can confirm that this is one of the most well organized backstagearea's in Europe so once again we had the time of our lives. There were even Internet facilities backstage so i could show the band the updates on my site since they last visited it before the European tour kicked off in may. Unfortunately Monster Magnet had to play very early (around noon) on the bill and they only had about 50 minutes to perform but in spite of the early hour the field was already packed with 65.000 visitors and the band had a lot of response. Again the set was a mixture of songs coming from all the albums, like Superjudge, Medecine, Powertrip, Nod Scene, Twin Earth, Dopes To Infinity, Crop Circle, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Spacelord. A lot of people to whom we spoke afterwards were unanimous, Monster Magnet was the suprise of the day. The band didn't seemed to care about the early hour and the short set because all of them were really having a good time on stage. For the first time since the US tour Dave met his friends in Marilyn Manson again so they decided to do something together on stage. We watched the Manson gig with the rest of the Monster Magnet guys from the frontstage and i have to admit, although i never really was into Manson, i liked it. Manson also asked the audience for a hallelujah for Monster Magnet and very cool was when he told a story on stage about him talking to God and that he knew for sure that his son Jezus, was a drug user just like Marilyn himself. He could tell this by the way Jezus walked, dressed and looked exactly like Dave Wyndorf from Monster Magnet ! During the last song of Manson's set Dave came on stage to jam with them and smashed one of Manson's flying V's into pieces and threw the thing in the audience, AWESOME ! Unfortunately, like always all good things have to end and in the early evening Monster Magnet had to leave for Ireland. It was the last time we saw the band on this tour and when the time came to say goodbye it was rather touchy ... to say the least. They told us that during the last year we really became a part of their family and that's exactly how it feels to us too, so we're gonna miss you people very much and of course your upcoming break is really well deserved and we are happy that finally all of you will have some time to share with your families but please hurry with that new album and come back to Europe soon ! Of course we all promissed to keep in touch so whenever there is Magnet news this still will be the place to be. We also would like to thank Annalena from Sweden, a good friend of the band who also became our friend over there on the Werchter fest. Annalena, you are one of the nicest people we ever ran into so we'll definitly keep in touch as promissed and hope to see you back soon !
