19 march 2005 : Unfortunately rhythm guitarist / backing vocalist Phil Caivano has decided to move on from Monster Magnet. Phil joined the band in '98 shortly after the release of the Powertrip album and has been a solid contributor ever since. This is without a doubt a great loss both for the band and the Magnet family in general. Over the years i had the luck to get to know Phil as a very talented musician and a great friend. However Phil will stay active in the rock bizz and will let us know what he's up to whenever time is right. We will miss you Phil, good luck and see you out there somewhere !

In an official statement main Magnet Dave Wyndorf confirms that replacing his long time friend Phil Caivano will be impossible but however Monster Magnet is auditioning guitarists to fill the rhythm slot. In the meantime Dave will be playing guitars himself and the change in line-up will in now way affect the output of Monster Magnet. Dave is in fact writing the new record as we speak ...  more soon.

This is due to the fact that the downloadable MP3's on the Official Monster Magnet Website are stored on the same server. The past weeks there has been massive traffic generated mainly from the offcial site and the bandwidth limit got spend in two weeks time. Currently i'm on tour with the band so we're trying to find another solution / webhost who can offer us more bandwidth. Due to this problem the downloadable B-Sides and Rarities both here and on the official site are also unreachable. To be continued ...

* Unfortunately the Forum on this site is down again..There seem to be a lot of technical problems at the company who's hosting it, their servers have been taken offline and apparently bankruptcy is lurking around the corner. As long as i don't get at least temporary access to their server there's no way  i can backup the database and eventually move it to another server ... sorry, to be continued.

Whilst the first CD seems to contain the obvious collection of singles and a random series of tracks picked by the Magnet's old label the second CD contains a couple of  hard to find b-sides and a complete selection of  their video clips. All in all a good closing of almost a decade at A&M records. To bad for the poor artwork though which looks like a quick job done by the label's doorkeeper on a  quiet night. Check out the Discography section for tracklist. Let's focus on the new album now ... to be released early 2004 on SPV !

...

* Last time i met Ed Mundell during the European Bitchwax tour he gave me a couple of very cool looking T-shirts. They were designed by a fan a long time ago and very few were made, that's all he knew about them. As i'm pretty sure a lot of you warheads out there want to show the world your part of the Monster Magnet legions, what better way than wearing a cool looking shirt like this ? Here's a call to whoever made them, please get in touch. Plan is to re-produce the design and selling the shirts as cheap as possible on this site. Obviously all (small) profits would go directly to the people who originally designed them, that's why i need to know who you are! * Apparently the Monster Magnet rhythm section got fired on April 16th 2003.  Both bass player Joe Calandra and drummer Jon Kleiman were long time members of the band, ever since the early nineties when the first, self titled EP, was released. Right now no further details are known about the split. Both musicians will be deeply missed amongst their worldwide fan base and without a doubt also by their remaining band mates. Both members and especially Joe Calandra became a good friend of mine over the years ever since I started doin’ this site. I surely hope Joe and Jon will continue their musical careers and naturally all their future moves will be followed and reviewed right here. Thanks for the great times, it's been a hell of a ride and always an honour to hang out with you guys … it’s sad to see you leave.

...

* GALLERY OF MITES : the official street date for Gallery of Mites' Bugs On The Bluefish debut CD is April 8th. 2003. Meandmyfriends.de describes the sound : "...Fat  stoner rhythms with smooth guitars, jamming guitars, burning guitars! ... a must in your Stoner Rock collection." Also to be available as an exclusive import vinyl LP from People Like You Records. Check out their Gallery Of Mites page online !

*Monster Magnet on new compilation : Rough Trade has just released a new 2 CD  compilation entitled Rock and Roll 1 that includes the Monster Magnet song 'Freak Shop USA' taken from the bands' first EP released in 1990. It's jam packed with tons of great bands from the Butthole Surfers to the Stooges and everything in between. "Each one of the tracks included here has the ability to lift you out of your seat, to give you that rush of energy that only great rock and roll supplies". Check out a review here.
* I posted some pretty old fanzines called Freak Shop USA. Some people on the forum at the official site seemed interested so click here to check them out.
* 30 january 2003, mail from Phil Caivano : Things are Ok here. We are just standing by until Dave finishes the sound track he's been working on. Its taking more time then any of us really wanted but its all for the best and I'm happy that he's doing something he always wanted to do. I did go to LA with Dave to play on some of it and the stuff sounds cool. The sound track does have one Monster Magnet song in it called Master Of Light....And we are in one scene of the movie playing the song. The band is good and we have recorded a bunch of songs and getting ready to record again. Its been a frustrating time for us.The music business sucks ! But Im not a business man Im a musician and I love what I do. We will be back with a great album that I am sure our true fans will love.It will be well worth the wait.

* Click here to read the full story on the upcoming movie Torque and Dave Wyndorf's involment in the making of the soundtrack.
* Jon Kleiman : "I have no idea what Monster Magnet's current plans are, I have not spoken with Dave for a while but I assume we are still a band. I imagine an album will be recorded this year, but we still don't have a label." "As far as the Ribeye Brothers go, we have several local shows lined up and are trying to get a tour of the east coast. We also sent out a new batch of CD's in hopes of attracting some attention in Europe, where i think we could do well. and the new record should be recorded within a month or two.

* Ed Mundell - 77 : It's nearly a year ago that The Atomic Bitchwax broke up, but due to an error it almost seemed that the band was together again and would play a gig at the Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY on January 24. "This must be an error of the Southpaw website", says former ABW-bassist Chris Kosnik, "but I don't want to destroy all hopes: "I have been talking with Ed and Keith to get back together." "The Atomic Bitchwax is not together again", says Ed Mundell, "and I think the confusion came about because I have a band with Keith Ackerman [former Bitchwax drummer] and we're doing some shows in January and February; we were slow in picking out a name for this project." "One of the clubs we are booked at put up the Bitchwax name in the ad for the show...the real name of the band is 77." "So, we are called 77. We do play bitchwax-style crazy instrumentals as of now, we haven't decided if we want vocals yet!!! I hope this clears things up..." In the meantime former Atomic Bitchwax bassplayer / vocalist Chris Kosnik's band Black Nasa embarked on a Europen tour early february 2003, check out their site for more info or the Roadburn website for tourdates.

*The Gallery Of Mites debut album entitled Bugs on a Blue Fish is now scheduled for a march 2003 release on MeteorCity Records.
* For those still catching up here's once again the updated Gallery Of Mites lineup: Tim Cronin (Monster Magnet - Ribeye Bros.) : Vocals / Jon Kleiman (Monster Magnet - Ribeye Bros.) : Drums, Rhythm Guitar, Bass / Ed Mundell (Monster Magnet) : Lead Guitar / Joe Calandra (Monster Magnet) : Bass / Phil Caivano (Monster Magnet) : Lead Guitar / Stu Gollin (Halfway To Gone) : Lead Guitar / Tommy Southard (Solace) : Lead Guitar / Mike Schwaggert (Lord Sterling) : Lead Guitar / Jim Baglino (Lord Sterling) : Bass / Duane Hutter (Black Nasa) : Harmonica & John Garcia (Hermano - Unida) : Vocals (on 100 Days).
* Ex Kyuss throat John Garcia (Unida / Hermano) is the latest to join the ever growing list of musicians participating in the Gallery Of Mites project. As reported on this site years ago Magnet musicians Ed Mundell, Joe Calandra and Jon Kleiman started writing some songs whilst rehearsing for the (at that time) upcoming Powertrip tour. The songs were never written for Dave (Wyndorf) but for a band called "Heron" made up of just the three mentioned Monster Magnet musicians. They decided to call in the help of John Garcia to sing on those tunes, which happened but for some reason the songs never got released and the Heron project died even before it began ... until now that is. "I've had that song for years now", says Garcia, "and it was good to finally lay it down, you know. It was a beautiful day to sing out at Rancho De La Luna. It was also 100 days to the day that former Rancho co-owner Fred Drake passed away, so i re-named the song 100 Days in his memory.

*Monster Magnet are currently shopping a new 3 song demo to interested record companies following their split with longtime label A&M Records earlier this year. Recorded in August 2002, the demo features the following cuts : Master Of Light / Oh Baby / Blow Your Mind.
* Monster Magnet just finished working on a movie called Torque in LA. Torque is videoclip director Joseph khan's first full lenght movie. Khan directed the Monster Magnet videoclip for Space Lord back in 1998 and wanted them for his movie. Apparently the Warner Bros movie is about two rival biker gangs, some featured actors are Ice Cube, Jay Hernandez and Matt Schulze and of course Monster Magnet who are doing what they do best ... playing a rockband ! For the movie they have an additional female guitarist named Roxy who's a musician/actress and a protégé from the Chriss Goss / Masters Of Reality / Queens Of The Stone Age clan. As we speak "Torque" is still in it's production fase, it should be out in the U.S. somewhere early 2003.
*German fan Bony (a.k.a. TheBonyDeviL at the Offcial forum) decided to start his own Monster Magnet Fan Site. Check it out at www.satanicdrug.de.vu.
* Rumours are Monster Magnet have plans to tour Europe late 2002 - early 2003 so hopefully this means the new, yet untitled album will be released around the same time. As far as i know the upcoming album is completely written and recorded but legal hassle and label stuff are preventing it to be released earlier.
* Friend of the band Ron Faiola @ pbgadget.com sais : "Hey Serge, I've uploaded two new clips and a couple of photos to my website. One clip is from Milwaukee - its Magnet doing a cover of Captain Beyond's "I Can't Feel Nothin' (Part II)," something they've added to their set list. Another clip is 15 seconds of a video I made for Tim to project over the stage during the show. I have a second one I will be uploading soon, along with some more clips from Milwaukee and Chicago. Requests for clips are welcome. I will probably make some MPEG's and MP3's along with the QuickTime clips. The photos are from the Orange Goblin show in Milwaukee on May 24. It was a day off for the band, so we went to a baseball game in Milwaukee, then the OG/Alabama Thunder Pussy show. Enjoy! Ron" So ckeck out Ron's site for lot's of cool Magnet stuff !
* Some Ribeye news from Meteor City : Ribeye Bros. contest on Zoopa Loop, one of France's coolest heavy-rock webzines, is running a Ribeye Brothers contest from June 10th through the end of the month. Just visit the Zoopa Loop site between these dates and correctly answer the contest questions, and you could be the winner of a free copy of The Ribeye Brothers debut album, "If I Had A Horse...". Also on the Ribeye front, there's a hilarious interview with the band on the Rocknation webzine right now, be sure and check it out for a laugh. There's also a semi-coherent sit-down with the Ribeye guys and Deanna of StonerRockChick.com, so stop by her site for a read as well.
* The Monster Magnet U.S. tour 2002 kicked off on may 3rd in Boston and according to fans who where lucky to be at the first shows on the current tour it was a pretty intense experience. Make sure to check out the "Forum" at the Official Site regulary as more and more gig reviews will probably be posted as the U.S. tour continues. Click here for tour dates.
* Darren Grealish at Biff! Bang! Pow! Studios has brand new Monster Magnet posters for sale now. It's the poster for the upcoming gig at "Theatre of the Living Arts" in Philadelphia on may 8th. Darren previously designed posters for Nebula, Electric Frankenstein, Nashville Pussy, Queens of the Stone Age, The Hellacopters ... and lots more. You can contact him at Darren Grealish / 5826 Harold Way / Los Angeles, CA 90028 / USA or e-mail him at racerx13dg@hotmail.co. * 5 may 2002 : There's more info on the upcoming release of the Dog of Mystery recordings up at Nodzine, check it out here.
* Die hard collectors beware, since a few weeks vinyl copies of the God Says No album are appearing on eBay. They are sold as promo copies and as it's the only Monster Magnet album i didn't own on vinyl yet i bought one. I received it a couple of days ago ... i can be wrong but my guess is these are bootlegs. Especially the lack of any label info on both record and sleeve seems a little suspicious to me. Anyway, this is just a warning in case your after the real deal ... considering i never saw a real vinyl version of GSN it's still better than nothing and still a cool item for collectors.

* In the studio right now are Gallery of Mites, this multi talented band, featuring Jon Kleiman, Ed Mundell, Joe Calandra and Tim Cronin from Monster Magnet, Tommy Southard from Solace, Mike Schweigert and Jim Baglino from Lord Sterling and Lee Stuart from Halfway To Gone are rocking through their Raw riff-blasting debut as only the Jersey rock contingent can. If that doesn't say HEAVY, nothing does. Stay tuned, 'cause if all goes well, we're looking at an end of the year release for this bad boy on MeteorCity Records.
* Check out the Tour Section as more dates on the upcoming U.S. headlining tour has been revealed.
* Tomorrow, march 26th The WWF Forceable Entry compilation will be released in the U.S. through Columbia Records. Track 13 on the CD is the brandnew Monster Magnet tune Live for the Moment and it's the entry theme music for the Hardy Boyz, which are apparently a couple of greasy oiled clowns who have nothing better to do than pretending to fight in some sort of ring, some people might call it wrestling .. wonder how they ended up on a World Wildlife Foundation compilation ;-) Anyway, Live For The Moment is a pretty cool and rockin' tune so get your RealPlayer ready and click here to listen to the song in streaming Real Audio, enjoy !

WWF Forceable Entry Out Now!

* Yet another Monster Magnet related album will be relased on Meteor City Rec's. On april 15th 2002 the label will re-release If I Had A Horse ..., the debut album by The Ribeye Brothers. The album has previously been released in 2000 on All Indie Records but thanks to Meteor City it should be available worldwide now. Tracklist for the albums is : 1. If I had a horse / 2. Mister Ray Charles / 3. Bootful of Piss / 4. D.W.I. / 5. How Does It Feel / 6. Drinkin' and Stinkin' / 7. Last Place Champs / 8. Mr. Ray Charles / 9. Steakhat / 10. Swagger Turned to Stagger / 11. Don't Pass Me By / 12. Love Theme. The Ribeye Brothers are: Tim Cronin : vocals & banjo, Jon Kleiman : everything else + vocals on Drinkin' and Stinkin'.
Visit the Ribeye's online !
* Monster Magnet are gearing up to hit the road in the U.S. early May! The first date is scheduled for Boston on May 3rd with many more to follow. As soon as more dates are available they will be listed in the Tour section on this site. Have a great tour guys and get your asses over to Europe as soon as the U.S. tour is over!
* 25 March 2002 : today is the official release date for the Atomic Bitchwax - Spit Blood CD through Meteor City. Tracklist for the brandnew CD is : 1. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (AC/DC cover) / 2. Liquor Queen (alternate version) / 3. Get Your Gear / 4. Cold Day In Hell / 5. Spit Blood / 6. Black Trans Am / 7. U Want I Should. Spit Blood is an enhanced CD containing a multimedia feature, Nod Zine's "Fly On the Wall". Fly On the Wall looks behind the scenes at the making of Spit Blood, containing MP3's and video clips as well as an interview.
Buy SPIT BLOOD online here!
* Unfortunately Monster Magnet guitarist Ed Mundell left The Atomic Bitchwax on february 4th so Spit Blood was set to be their swan-song but according to the Atomic Bitchwax Fan Site remaining Bitchwax members Kris Kosnik and Keith Ackerman are looking for a new guitarist. Alhough things definitely wont be the same this band is simply to good to disappear, at least that's how i think about it ... to be continued.
* Don at Nodzine says : Hey, to those interested, I have heard that the Dog of Mystery (pre-Magnet band) tapes were being shopped around, and that Tim Cronin and John McBain have found someone they feel will be doing this release. You can read about the Dog of Mystery here. The exact song list has not been determined, but I can tell you that it appears the release will be limited to 150-200 copies, possibly autographed (not sure how many will be autographed), and that there will be liner notes by Tim and John. If you would like to be put on the waiting list for this release, which I understand should sell for under $15, then head over to Nod Zine and put your name and email down here, I will make sure that all information collected here gets in the proper hands, on a first come first served basis. This is a chance to own a genuine, authorized piece of Magnet history. You can also visit this page periodicly and I will post new news as I get it and confirm it. Peace, DON
Pre-order DOGS OF MYSTERY here!
* RIBEYE BRO'S LIVE : Jon Kleiman and Tim Cronin's RIBEYE BROTHERS will be performing at the upstairs of The Downtown Cafe in Red Bank, NJ tomorrow, February 19.Door is $5, and the show starts at 9 pm with openers El Segundo (featuring Chris Kosnick of The Atomic Bitchwax) and then The Ribeyes will play two sets.
* 15 february 2002 : Although everything's rather silent 13 tracks for what should become the next Monster Magnet album have been written. It's still unknown when or where the new, yet untitled album will be recorded / released but pray to the BullGod and i'm sure it'll hit us with a bang before we know it. In the meantime plan is to re-release some very old stuff with extra bonus tracks so keep your eyes open for that in the near future.
* As you all know Monster Magnet released enough hard to find bonus tracks and B-sides over the years to fill an entire album. Because the band doesn't own the rights to any of these songs anymore they are not able to release such an album but guess what ... no one can stop them from making the songs available for free on their offcial site so that's exaclty what's gonna happen. Coming somewhere in the next few weeks in the "extra" section at www.monstermagnet.net are 12 songs downladable for free, how about that !
* Spine of God, the album that started the whole "Stoner Rock" revolution back in 1991 is now available at the Official Monster Magnet Online store. Also back in stock is spaced out masterpiece TAB released in 1993. Also for sale are cool t-shirts and coming very soon ... action packs containing all kinds of great Monster Magnet stuff. What the hell are you still doin' here ? Get your butt over there NOW !
Buy this now !
* Rare tracks by Creed and Limp Bizkit and a host of newly recorded theme songs are all in the mix on the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) compilation "WWF Forced Entry," due March 26, 2002 from Columbia. The bulk of the album features new recordings of theme songs from WWF stars, with such pairings as Disturbed / "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Sevendust / Chris Jericho, Rob Zombie / Edge, Cypress Hill / Tazz, Dope / Vince McMahon, Drowning Pool / Triple H, Monster Magnet / Hardy Boyz, Our Lady Peace / Chris Benoit, and Stereomud.
* Upcoming U.S. shows for The Atomic Bitchwax : January 19th @ North 6th in Brooklyn NY with Karma To Burn and JJ Paradise Players Club / January 26th @ Brighton Bar in Long Branch NJ with Shovelhead and MC9.
* 06 january 2002 : The first update of the new year is probably a long-awaited one for the musicians amongst my visitors. Over the years i received numerous e-mails to ask why i hadn't any guitar-tabs up on this site. The reason is simple ... i can't play and didn't want to steal them from somewhere else. Finally the right man for the job popped up out of nowhere. About a week ago guitarist Nathan Tobola, Magnet freak and regular visitor of my site offered me to tab everything out and did a hell of a job by doing all Magnet albums in only six days. All i had to do was making his tabs suitable for the web and put the stuff online ! The brand-new Tabs Section is a fact so check it out. All you freaks keep an eye on this section, right now Nathan is all tabbed-out for a while but he will continue with the Tab...25 album, b-sides etc., thanks man ! Our goal is to have tabs for every song the Magnet ever did up and running on this site in the very near future!
* 19 december 2001 : The Official Monster Magnet site is back in business ! Since the band officialy parted ways with the record company and some sections of the site were part of the company's web hosting site they decided to take things in own hands. The new site is up and running and looks pretty damn cool. Completely new is the "Merchandise" section which gives us the chance to buy cool shirts / cd's / vinyl etc. directly from the band, check it out ! Also back online is the brand new Forum which will be moderated by the bandmembers themselves instead of some rec. company jerk so ... sign in and get writing !
Visit the Offcial Monster Magnet Site!
* I'm very sorry for the delay but i'm still busy writing & designing a complete Monster Magnet biography instead of the crapy "ultimate bandlist" type of thing which used to be on my site 'til a year ago. As i want it to be absolutely complete including every little bit of information about previous bands / side projects / early recordings / etc. it's a pretty complex not to say "a hell" of a job, i assure you. Because i'm still not certain about some details i decided to call in some help from the bandmembers ... they agreed to help me out but hey ... these guys are damn busy and so am i so please be patient and come back often. In the very near future the most complete story on the most kickass band on planet earth and beyond will be posted right here on this site. Tomorrow it's Bitchwax time as i'm gonna see Magnet guitarist Ed Mundell and friends in Nijmegen (Holland) but after this i hope to shift to fifth gear and have the thing online within' the next few weeks, thanks for your patience and Rock On!
* Whilst most Monster Magnet members are busy touring / recording with their side projects frontman Dave Wyndorf is writing songs for what should become the next Monster Magnet album. According to Tim Cronin it sounds great and really heavy psyche!
* Friends of the Magnet Heavy Liquid just added a bunch of very cool MP3 and RealAudio files to their site including live recordings from their NJ & NYC shows with Solarized and Suicide King earlier this year, check it out !
* 08 december 2001 : News from MeteorCity. Ah, the many faces of rock. There are as many different worthwhile explorations of rock in the world as canals on Mars, and it's always exciting when a familiar artist reels out something unexpected; that's the sort of refreshing surprise the rock world needs more of. Monster Magnet skinsman Jon Kleinman and Jersey rock-stalwart Tim Cronin have brought their diverse and intense range of musical interests to the MeteorCity fold with their two project bands, The Ribeye Brothers and Gallery of Mites. Ribeye is pretty out there, being heavy on bluesy themes, surf-pop nostalgia, and outlaw country swagger. Gallery, conversely, is a head-down, balls-out rock beast in the vein of The Stooges and MC5. Both bands are helmed by the Kleinman/Cronin dynamic duo, Ribeye being wholly performed and driven by the pair, while Gallery takes the shape of an actual full band with fellow Magnets Ed Mundell and Joe Calandra filling out its lineup. Both bands debut records will be out next year, with the possibility of a second Ribeye outing before 2003 if ambition runs high. First out is The Ribeye Brothers' "If I Had A Horse..." in March or April 2002; this album saw a very small self-release of less than a few hundred copies early this past Spring, but is now being given the full MeteorCity treatment to get it out to the world properly, including a pair of new tracks not included on that initial short run. Gallery of Mites is hoping to get into the studio in January to lay things down, and we'll be shooting for a late-Summer launch date on that one; several special-guest possibilities have presented themselves as well, so stay tuned for more info! And once more, to Mr. Kleinman and Mr. Cronin, welcome to MeteorCity! You're in good company.
* Don at Nodzine sais : I have put a video clip of Monster Magnet doing Black Balloon at the Vintage Vinyl record store show earlier this year, up on the Nod Zine Video Jukebox. Watch the clip here, this is the complete song in high quality. To acces it, click the middle blank spot between pictures on the top Row, and that will play a 225k video stream.
* The Atomic Bitchwax International Fan Site has a new webmaster! Ladies and gentlemen please welcome Benjamin from Berlin who took over the job to spread the news about The Bitchwax online from Naomi. Send all Bitchwax info, pic's, reviews etc. to cojak@gmx.de. Naomi's old site will be up until the end of this year and on january 1st - 2002 the new site will kick off !
* Whilst The Atomic Bitchwax keeps on rockin' through the European continent you can click here for an audio broadcast of their show at the Roadburn festival last wednesday, december 4th.
* Scroll down for the complete and definitive list of Atomic Bitchwax European tourdates !
* The House Of Blues website is re-running the 24-hour video webcast of Monster Magnet's show at Mountain Dew Rock Stage - Summerfest, Milwaukee WI on friday october 19th 2001.
* As mentioned earlier on this site The Atomic Bitchwax will embark on a one month European tour later this year. Here's the complete list of confirmed tourdates. There's a slight chance that "Spit Blood" will come out in Europe in time for the band to sell it on the road. If you're a European Bitchwax fan and want new music from them this year, email Meteorcity, the label that will release "Spit Blood" at info@meteorcity.com and they will pass your message on to the band.

* In the meantime things are rather quiet in the Monster Magnet camp. As for now there will be no extension of the interrupted "God Says No" tour. Dave recovered well from his knee surgery earlier this summer and instead of another tour the band decided to concentrate on re-grouping and start working on some new stuff for what should become the next album. Meanwhile here's a pic of Dave spotted recently enjoying a drink with legendary producer and Def Jam Records founder Rick Rubin, now what's this supposed to mean, don't ask me ...
* Here's a message posted by bassplayer Joe Calandra on the Official site : Well I guess you all thought we fell off the face of the earth didn't you? Sorry for not keeping up on the site but we've been in a kind of limbo ever since Dave hurt his knee (which, by the way, is fine now). Lots of crap has been happening which caused us to stop touring and reassess how we do what we do. Without going into much detail right now, we are trying to get things straightened out between us and some of the people and organizations that are supposed to be working for us but appear to have been working against us (or not working at all). Unfortunately, there is a lot more to being in a band then just getting on stage and playing music. Sometimes you have to deal with the business end of the music business which always sucks! And this just happens to be one of those times for us. That being said I want to thank every one who keeps coming to the site and posting stuff on the forum even though none of us ever (or should I say rarely) write in. Don't get discouraged we try to look at it every day so keep it up. Anyway, many of the things I've been eluding to here should become crystal clear in the coming weeks so just keep yr shirts on.
* From MeteorCity news : For all you Atomic Bitchwax junkies, the wait for something new is almost over. The guys have been steadily compiling and fine-tuning the material for their first MeteorCity release, "Spit Blood", for over a year now, and they're just about done. "Spit Blood" will feature 7 new Bitchwax recordings that span sessions from '96 to the present, including an extended version of "Liquor Queen" from their II album and a cosmic rendition of the AC/DC classic "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". The final release date has yet to be determined, but we've got our fingers crossed that all the material will be here in order to allow us to make January or February. Go to Meteorcity's News section to download an MP3 of the band's rough mix of "Dirty Deeds" Hope that'll tide you over during these last couple months of waiting for the official release!
* More from MeteorCity news, released September 11th 2001 : In the works for nearly three years, SCENE KILLER was worth the wait. Fuzzed-out flowing guitar rock like they made thirty years ago, this record features once-in-a-lifetime collaborations between members of every important riff-rock band from New Jersey: Monster Magnet, Solace, The Atomic Bitchwax, Core, Solarized, The Lemmings, Drag Pack, Halfway To Gone, Burnout King, The Clone Obey, Six Sigma, and The Ribeye Bros. Executive produced by James Hogan of Solarized, with mixing and post-production by the legendary Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Nebula), and cover art by Wes Benscoter, SCENE KILLER is thirteen tracks of spur-of-the moment greatness and loud, stony glory. Tracks: 1. Intro / 2. Island Zero / 3. Pit of the Soul / 4. You Know / 5. Aurora / 6. Interlude / 7. Back of My Mind / 8. Midnight Snack / 9. Psychic Down / 10. Wasteland / 11. Found / 12. Buckshot / 13. As You Look. Click here to order SCENEKILLER at MeteorCity's "All That's Heavy" Online store @ stonerrock.com !
* Upcoming U.S. shows for The Atomic Bitchwax : October 13th @ Brighton Bar - Long Branch NJ / November 16th @ CBGB's NY.
* 10 september 2001 : Check out the House Of Blues website tomorrow, tuesday september 11th for a 24-hour video webcast of Monster Magnet's show at Mountain Dew Rock Stage at Summerfest, Milwaukee WI - USA earlier this year (3rd july 2001).
* As things are rather quiet in the Monster Magnet camp these days with Dave recovering from his knee surgery and stuff i finally found some time to concentrate on the official Heavy Liquid site. There isn't much out there for now but people can get an idea on what the site will look like as the main layout is finished and online, any suggestions are welcome and both The Liquid and I are especially looking for artists who can draw and create some nasty space rawk 'n roll artwork for the band ! You will get all the credits for your work both on the site and the upcoming record so please, anyone out there with some talent ... send in your work. Heavy Liquid are long time friends and roadies for Monster Magnet and vocalist/guitarist Trezz is also known as the sound wizard for Nick Fury's Phantom Eye (a.k.a. Monster Magnet).
* Apparently Ed Mundell's Atomic Bitchwax are planning a European trip later on this year. Up until now only one show has been announced and this one's still to be confirmed but ... at least it seems as the mighty Bitchwax might finally make it to Europe. Strange thing is, the announced show is in Belgium and as you all know this is where i live, weird enough everyone involved in the organisation of the gig wraps himself into a haze of mystery for now. Check out Orange Factory as these are the people who announced the show. I'll do my best to update you all on a possible Euro Atomic Bitchwax tour as soon as possible.
* Unfortunately Naomi announced the closing of her long standing and awesome international Official Atomic Bitchwax Fan Site. In a message on her site she sais she just can't keep it up anymore and believe me, this sounds familiar to me and all those out there who maintain a highly visited fansite. This must have been a pretty hard decision to make for Naomi and i want to thank her for doing one of my favourite websites for the past three years. Her site, "as it is today", will still be online for a while but she stopped updating it last week. In the same message she also asked for anyone who feels like starting a new Bitchwax fan site and sais she will be happy to transfer all her info and stuff to the new site ... so come on people, i'm sure the right people for the job are somewhere out there! Oh, and before someone gets any ideas ... at first, there's no way i can make something even similair to Naomi's site because she's a much better designer than i ever will be and second, i'm very busy designing and maintaining this Monster Magnet site, the Cowboys & Aliëns site, the Heavy Liquid site and the Artline Tattoo's site. Third thing is Dan's server at stonerrrock.com is over-full so i wouldn't even know where to find the webspace. Next to that i have a full time job and a family but ... whoever feels like doing a serious attempt to start a new Atomic Bitchwax fansite count me in for any help you might need for design and stuff ;-) ... let's Rock! Thanks again to Naomi for the great job with her site, the nice e-mails in the past, the beautiful designed birthday cards each and every year and for simply being a very cool fellow music freak with a heart for great and groovy tunes!
* Monster Magnet has been nominated for the second annual Doobie Awards for Conscious Music, which seeks to celebrate those artists who have helped promote marijuana. * 19 august 2000 : AGM managment now officially comfirmes that new album God Says No is set for a European release in November 2000, however the album wont be released in the US 'til early 2001. The album was recorded in Vancouver, British Columbia, and like 1998's Powertrip, Matt Hyde and Randy Staub handled production duties, with Alan Moulder (Dopes to Infinity) mixing the disc in London (UK). The managment also comfirmed a short European tour right after the november release but you all read this on this site before haven't you ...
* Monster Magnet plans to shoot a video for new track Heads Explode around the end of august 2000 with frontman Dave Wyndorf directing. The managment promises the clip to have some similarities to the bands Vegas- Style "SpaceLord" video, boasting playboy playmates and an even bigger production plan. The videoclip will most likely be held back from the North American market until the new year ... a clever marketing move by Interscope Records or just a tribute to European fans who embraced the band years before the american masses, who knows ??
* 13 august 2000 : Release date and title of the upcoming album have now officially been comfirmed. "God Says No" will be released through Interscope Records late november 2000. The album will be released in Europe about two months earlier than in the US ... right now it's unclear if the november release means the European or the US release but i think it's the Euro date. Rumours are that Monster Magnet will hit the road for a short European tour right after the november release after which they will tour the States in early 2001 followed by another full European tour. People who had the chance to listen to the advanced tape are absolutely stoked ... naturally. More news on this site as soon as available

* 05 april 2000 : the band came home from the Warehouse studios in Vancouver (Canada) after the recording sessions for the new album. Dave still has some more vocals to do on it, and then off into post-production. In the meantime some news on what to expect is leaking out. The album will be produced by the same team who did the Powertrip album : Matt Hyde & Dave Wyndorf. According to Dave the material sounds darker and heavier than anything on Powertrip. At times it's very twisted and it's shaping up very psychedelic and strange. The album should be finished by the end of April 2000 with a summer release expected after which the band will gear themselves up for a worldwide tour.

It was something to do with my records and a whole bunch of stuff. All my plans to write the album somewhere far away ended up with me in New Jersey most of the time!" Dave describes the direction of the new Magnet LP as more psychedelic. "It's more low-key and twisted. At this point in writing the album I'm not sure how much rock stuff will be in there." Wyndorf does say, however, that he wants to collaborate with Kid Rock at some point: "He's awesome. I'm sure we'll hook up. I'm kinda hanging out and watching the world suck. Apart from that, I've been writing the new record for the last four weeks. It's gonna sound a lot different because Phil Caivano will be taking up a lot of the guitar parts that I used to play. There'll be some strange keyboards and more singing on the record, it's all coming together. Phil's rockin' the band out the entire time."

It was good to have some time off but right now the band is ready to rock and working on the new album . Phil Caivano, the ex-Shrapnel & ex-Blitzspeer guitarist, joined Monster Magnet in 1998 shortly after the "Powertrip" release. As Dave mentioned in recent interviews Phil hadn't yet the chance to play on any of Monster Magnet's albums (except for the songs "Silver Future" on the Heavy Metal II soundtrack & the Black Sabbath cover "Into The Void" on the upcoming Nativity in Black II tribute) but he will be "ALL OVER" the next record! Those who saw Phil rockin' live with the Magnet on the Powertrip tour know what to expect ... kick out the jams motherfuckers!

* Well, I already was made aware of the following extremely groovy news during the recent European tour by some of the bandmembers (Ed and Joe) but as it was also mentioned in Kerrang magazine and on the Stoner Rock Mailing list a few days ago, i guess it's safe to say it might be called official now, here we go : Monster Magnet members Ed Mundell, Joe Calandra and Jon Kleiman have recorded four instrumental tracks back in June 1998 which they wanted to use for a sideproject. The demotape with the four instrumental tracks has then been sent to John Garcia (ex-Kyuss, ex-Sloburn), vocalist in Unida. The Monster Magnet trio were waiting for Garcia to add lyrics and vocals to the tracks before deciding what to do with them. As it seems John Garcia has already worked out some melody lines to the tracks but Monster Magnet has been constantly on the road since Powertrip came out and John Garcia was also very busy with his band Unida so right now it isn't sure yet what's gonna happen with these songs. To be continued .......

* The next Monster Magnet release will probably be an E.P. featuring 5 or 6 six new songs. The band is planning to hit the studio right after the Iron Maiden tour. "I think we're gonna record some old fashioned space rock. We just got a gold record for Powertrip so we earned some credits to do whatever we want." : says Ed Mundell. The E.P. should be out by the end of the year. In the meanwhile Ed will hit the road in october with his other band ATOMIC BITCHWAX. "First we tour the States and then hopefully Europe" : says Ed. Rumour goes that tourmates for the States will probably be the high octane three piece stonercrew NEBULA !
* The soundtrack for the upcoming animated movie "Heavy Metal II", which is a sequel on the original cult classic will feature a previously unreleased Monster Magnet song called "Silver Future".

I want to thank all the people who were there and all together made that day my most special birthday ever ! My great friends Birgit and Caren from the U.K. for flying over to Holland to see the Magnet and to help me celebrate / Natacha for all her love and support over the years / Sabrina for coming from Germany to Holland to celebrate and for giving the birthday kisses TWICE ;-) / the whole band and the crew (no matter how busy you guys are not a single one of you people forgot to wish me a happy birthday, ... once more all of you have proven to be there for your fans, AWESOME !!!) / Samantha, Joe Calandra's lovely wife for her enthusiasm about my website and for being so friendly / Walter from Roadburn / The Hellacopters for being the perfect supportact / the whole crowd at the Paradiso for going insane and all the other people i might have forgotten ... But ... like Phil said to us in Amsterdam : "You never know ...." so maybe the Powertrip tour will just go on and on and on YEAH !!

* Dave intends to write and record the next album as soon as Monster Magnet wrap up touring in October 1999. "Right now I feel like writing more psychedelic and trippy songs because I've been rocking nonstop for the past year but it's a strange process writing an album. I start off writing what I wanna hear but once it comes time to do the album I usually get back in the rock mode. I think I'll continue with the rock thing, simply because it's too damn fun." says Dave.
* Apparently Monster Magnet has also recorded a brandnew song for the soundtrack of the upcoming movie "Me, myself and Irene" starring Jim Carrey.

* On thursday the 03rd december 1998 I was at the Monster Magnet gig in Tilburg (The Netherlands) at the brandnew 013 venue. It was the first show of this small European headlining tour, the band flew in from Boston USA the day before and the show was AWESOME !! The Magnet loves the Netherlands and Holland loves the Magnet so it kicked major ass ! I've met the band backstage afterwards and all the guys in the band told me that they really appreciate the thing I'm doing with my website so this is together will all the positive vibes I'm getting from all you people the biggest encouragement I ever had ! Especially Phil was very enthousiastic and even mentioned that the first e-mail he ever send was the one to me, after he visited my site. When I asked why this European tour is so short Dave mentioned that for the first time in the bands existence they sell a lot of albums in the States so they just have to tour over there as much as possible. They really would love to tour in all the other countries like Belgium, Spain, Italy etc. but it's all really because of a lack of time. Dave also said that the band will probably be back in Europe in the spring or the summer of 1999 so all of you out there who missed the Magnet on this tour, your time will come.
* It seems as Rob Zombie has cancelled most European tourdates. No need to panic though. Monster Magnet will be here, which makes them the absolute headliners for this tour instead of co-headlining with Zombie. Well, isn't this great news ?

* Last sunday (08th november '98) another incident happened at a Monster Magnet gig. Fargo police arrested 26 year old Marianne Cox after she danced topless on stage at the Civic Memorial Auditorium. According to a local news paper, she and another woman got on stage with the Magnet. Officers in the crowd saw the woman on stage, lifting their shirts to the crowd. One woman then took of her shirt and approached the lead singer, who put his head to her breasts. YEEHAA, way to go Dave !!! It's about time you guys are comin' to Europe. At least topless dancing isn't a big deal over here ! It's obvious that the United States Of Who Gives A Shit are to fucking conservative to appreciate some good old Monster Magnet entertainment !
* Seems as the Magnet is stirring some controversy at their recent U.S. gigs. It's not actually the band that's getting all the attention. A group of female fans have started to do some performing of their own at some Monster Magnet gig's, like the band's stop in Atlanta where two woman simulated a sex act on stage at the international ballroom. Read all about it at MTV News Online.
* Some rumours are circulating that the Magnet will do a headline tour with "Clutch" after the current tour with Rob Zombie.
* According to their U.K. press outlet Monster Magnet has already sold 400.000 copies of the "Powertrip" album stateside !
* On the 23th of october the new Kurt Russell action movie "Soldier" will be released which features Monster Magnet on the soundtrack. At the moment they are making a Powertrip video for the movie.
* Monster Magnet will appear on the soundtrack of Childsplay IV (The bride of Chucky) with the song "See you in hell". A few other participating bands are White Zombie, Coal Chamber, Slayer, Motörhead and Judas Priest. The soundtrack should be available in Europe from october 2nd.
* The release of THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX's debutalbum has been delayed until january '99. Atomic Bitchwax is Monster Magnet guitarist Ed Mundell's other band.

* On saturday the 29th of august i saw the Magnet at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium. It was a pretty good show although i was a little dissapointed to see them appear on the mainstage in the early afternoon. They were announced as headliners on the Marquee stage at first but for some strange reasons this was changed afterwards. Anyway, i had the opportunity to meet the band after the show. Very cool is the fact that bassplayer Joe Calandra promised me to check out my Magnet fansite as soon as he gets home from the current European festivaltour. Joe Calandra also mentioned that the Magnet will be back for a European headlining tour in december or in January.

POWERTRIP ALBUM SIGNED !!

Track 2 and 3 are identical to the album versions. The game is a song that was recorded during the Powertrip sessions but that hasn't been released yet.
* MONSTER MAGNET welcomes aboard PHIL CAIVANO on guitar who will be touring with the band. That's right, they added an additional third guitarplayer to the lineup to have an even better livesound than they use to have. Phil seems to be a former member of Schrapnel, Dave Wyndorf's old band. He is a long time friend of the band and he has lended equipment to Monster Magnet for Superjudge, Dopes To Infinity and Powertrip.
* In an interview in the july edition of Aardschok magazine Dave Wyndorf said that Monster Magnet will tour in Europe for eight or ten weeks in the fall of 1998. After this European tour the band goes back to the States, Australia, Japan and South-America for a headlining tour.

* On this years Dynamo Open Air festival in Holland there were some rumours that Monster Magnet would appeare as special guests on the Stoner Rock Stage on sunday the 30th may. Unfortunate those rumours were not true, i know it because i was there for the whole weekend waiting for the band to show up. On the other hand i saw some cool gigs from bands as Fu Manchu, Spiritual Beggars, 7 Zuma 7, Orange Goblin, sHeavy, Cathedral, etc.

* In the festivalguide which all visitors received at the entrance there was a Monster Magnet competition and probably that was what caused the rumours that they were playing there. By answering three easy questions people could win a special promo-cd called 'Fuel from powertrip' or a T-shirt from the band. As all good warheads i won both by entering the competition twice (hehe).
Front and Backcover of the Promo-CD received at the Dynamo Festival
The Promo T-shirts have the new bullgod logo on the frontprint and on the backprint are the words "You are a Spacelord Motherfucker now!"

* The album is produced by Matt Hyde (Porno for Pyros) together with Dave Wyndorf. The album is mixed by Randy Staub except for the songs 'Baby Götterdämerung' and 'Your lies become you' that are mixed by producer Matt Hyde and the songs 'See you in hell' and 'Goliath and the vampires' that are mixed by Terry Date who is known for his excellent work with bands like Soundgarden and White Zombie.
